William Herr

I'm hoping to learn more information about my grandfather's time in the 99th and what he may have experienced during the war.

His name was William Herr and was in an anti-tank company, part of the 394th Regiment. He was from Fort Wayne IN, and worked for International Harvester both before and after the war.

I know he was awarded a Bronze Star for his role during the Bulge, and I believe he earned it during the time Dec. 16-19, 1944.

He was inducted into the Army on Dec. 2, 1942, in Toledo OH. He left the U.S. for the ETO on Sept. 29, 1944, and arrived Oct. 11, 1944. I have his discharge papers, but they don't tell enough of the story to help me complete my search. He died in 1976, when I was a young boy so I didn't get the chance to know him as well as I wanted to.

I hope one of you gentlemen knew him or knew of him. I hope maybe someone who served in the anti-tank company of the 394th will be able to share their experience with me. This is a special endeavor for me and I appreciate any help I can get.

Please contact me with any information. Feel free to call collect. Thanks to all for your service and sacrifice and thank you for any help you can give me in my search to learn about my grandfather.
