Widlow receives mess kit
Widow receives mess kit
A news story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette of Nov. 12, 1999, tells how a widow received part of her husband's mess kit, lost by her husband during the Battle of the Bulge.
99th Infantryman John Rakoci of H/394, lost his mess kit during combat, the aluminum lid remained covered for years until it was discovered by Jean-Philippe Speeder, one of the 99th Diggers.
Rakoci had carved his name and serial number on the mess kit.
Phil did some research and returned the mess kit lid to the widow. She was appreciative.
