Walter A. Novak, A/394 years ago
I am researching my wife's uncle who was transferred to the 99th sometime at the beginning of the push by the Germans at the Battle of the Bulge Dec. 16, 1944.
His name is Walter A. Novak, killed in action March 3, 1945. From a letter he wrote to one of his sisters on Feb. 18, 1945, he advised that he had been transferred to the 99th Division around Dec. 14-18, 1944, and was on the front line with the 99th.
His nickname was Romeo. His letterhead has Pfc. Walter A. Novak, serial number 37740762, Company A, 394th Inf, APO 449.
He evidently was killed sometime after the 99th took the offensive and was killed in Belgium, possibly near the Rhine River.
