Walt is on the mend
Past president and former secretary Walt Schroeder is alive and well in Illinois.
Following the convention in San Antonio, Walt called the Checkerboard office to dispel rumors that he is in ill health.
Walt and wife Dorothy missed last year's convention in Biloxi as well as San Antonio.
In the past couple of years he suffered a heart attack, had stents inserted, and underwent surgery for colon cancer. In the meantime, Dorothy underwent back surgery.
They also moved from their home in Urbana IL, to a condominium near the airport in Savoy IL.
According to Walt, "We've been through a lot but we're doing fine now."
