Van Dorn Museum project seeks funds
Dear Friends:
I just want to bring you up to date on the Camp Van Dorn Museum. Believe it or not, we are going to open the museum on March 19. We started this project in 1999. Fortunately, in 2002, the Mississippi Dept. of Archives and History gave us a $375,000 grant to restore an historic building. That job is complete; the building is beautiful and we are busy putting together the wonderful memories of those soldiers who trained here.
These men and women are enthusiastic about the museum and have helped in so many ways by supplying historic records, pictures, and artifacts. Special care is being used to preserve these for future generations. This is an expensive process. It is our desire that the Centreville Camp Van Dorn Museum will be a fitting tribute to those who worked and trained at the camp and sacrificed so much for the freedoms we enjoy.
We want to thank you so much for your generous gifts in the past and ask you to continue remembering the museum. As you plan your year-end giving, please consider making a tax-deductible gift to the museum. We need your help to purchase the materials required to preserve the archives, set up displays, and pay day-to-day operating expenses.
As a special fund-raiser, the museum committee is selling 2005 calendars featuring Centreville homes and gardens. Calendars are $12 each. To order or make donations, please send checks to Camp Van Dorn Museum, PO Box 1113, Centreville MS 39631.
