Stavelot friends thank the 99th
Joseph and Madeline Dejardin of Stavelot, Belgium, are longtime friends of the 99th.
They gladly welcome 99th veterans to their home, and have been helpful on many occasions to your Checkerboard editor and his family.
Recently, in a letter, they stated that they want to thank all the veterans of the 99th who helped restore their freedom in 1944-45.
Joseph met with the October Battlefield Tour at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, and they hope to meet veterans again in May.
"You restored peace and freedom to Europe," Madeline said, "And we will not forget. We thank you."
They wish all 99th veterans and their families a good year in 2000.
