Song is remembered
Archives chairman and past president Harry McCracken says he is the guy who asked the singer at the San Antonio Convention for words to "Behind the Swinging Doors."
Harry was a medic at Camp Van Dorn MS, before there were any service clubs. There was a regimental retreat, located near the 395th Regiment dispensary.
"It was an outdoor setup and it had a jukebox that played all country-western songs. This song played most of the time," Harry said.
He wonders if other Van Dorn men remember hearing it.
