Smollon is 'cover boy'

Smollon becomes 'cover boy'

Frank Smollon, K/393, was featured recently in Soundoff magazine at Ft. Meade MD.

In the story about Frank and his service history was the center spread, featuring him. "Does that make me a cover boy?" he wondered.

The article was published in recognition of National POW/MIA Day, Sept. 21.

Frank's story is much like that of fellow 99'ers. He enlisted at age 19, was in the ASTP program, and was sent to K/393 at Camp Maxey.

On Dec. 16, 1944, he was captured while manning a machine gun position in the Ardennes.

His wartime experiences were recorded on audio tape in 1984, and that was the material used in writing his story.
