Proud to serve

On my 81st birthday I received from my wife, a book entitled "Battle Babies," by Walter E. Lauer. Reading the book, I realized it was a privilege and an honor to have served with the 99th Infantry Division.

I was drafted in November 1942. I arrived December 1942, at Camp Van Dorn MS, and I was put in the 3rd Platoon, 99th Recon Troop, at Camp Maxey TX.

I was promoted to platoon sergeant in the 3rd Platoon. I had the privilege of working with all three infantry regiments and other units in maneuvers and in combat.

After the conflict with Germany, we were stationed in Gerolzhofen, Germany. After three or four months we went back to England, then to the States for discharge in November 1945, at Indian Town Gap PA.

I feel proud to have been a part of the 99th Infantry Division.
