$2 million to WWII memorial

Governor Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania has announced the donation of $2 million for the World War II Memorial.

The announcement was made at a ceremony held Veterans Day with former Sen. Bob Dole attending. Dole is chairman of the fund campaign.

99th Archives Chairman Harry McCracken wrote to Governor Ridge thanking him, and also gave him a short history of the 99th, which is a Pennsylvania outfit.

McCracken said a bill has been introduced in the Pennsylvania Legislature designating Route 66 as 99th Infantry Memorial Highway. The highway goes by the new 99th RSC headquarters. A replica of a 99th soldier will be placed in front of the building.

McCracken and other 99th veterans marched in the Veterans Day parade.
