Paying dearly
Bill Tumblin was a highly popular recreation specialist at Camp Maxey and probably known by more men in the 99th than most. He was in 1st Bn. HQ and also Service Company of 393rd during combat. And, like hundreds of others, suffered from frozen feet during the Battle of the Bulge — or what the VA calls "residuals of frozen feet." Bill suffered along with the problem for years, eventually it grew worse. He was regular in attending the annual reunions. How he has lost both his legs above the knees and hasn't been able to attend reunions. His first leg was removed in October 1999, and his second leg in April 2001. Bill continues to pay dearly for world freedom.
