Newsletter mentions 99th
World War II Chronicles, the official quarterly newsletter of the World War II Veterans Committee, has made two "mentions" of the 99th.
Their chaplain, the Rev. Arnold Taylor, who officiated at their annual conference in Washington, D.C., is a 99'er living there.
Also mentioned in the magazine is James Strawder, E/393, also of Washington, D.C
Taylor published a moving and inspiring account of Strawder's service record. He was one of the black troops who took a reduction in rank to volunteer as an infantry soldier and served with the 99th "with great distinction."
The magazine has a toll-free number and will record up to three-minute tapes of individual WWII combat experiences. Call 1-800-704-2484 or write WWII Vets Committee, American Studies Center; 1030 15th St., Suite 700; Washington D.C. 20005.
