Mobley was great running back
Past president Al Nelson wrote to the Checkerboard after reading about Rudolph "Doc" Mobley in "Taps."
Nelson says Mobley was the greatest running back in the whole country in the fall of 1942, when he played for Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene TX. He was "Little All-American" running back and there was not a college running back in the whole country who gained as many yards as Doc Mobley.
Nelson was in the same platoon as Mobley in the ASTP at Sam Houston State Teachers' College in Huntsville TX, from September 1943 to March 1944.
