Julius Herb

I am writing to request information concerning my wife's grandfather. His name was Pvt. Julius Dale Herb. He was killed in action Jan. 31, 1945.

I have obtained a fair amount of facts regarding his enlistment (from the National Archives), the actions of his division and regiment (from "Dauntless"), and his burial (from the American Battle Monuments Commission).

Records indicate he was with the 12th Army Group, First Army, V Corps, 99th Infantry Division, 393rd Infantry Regiment. He enlisted July 29, 1944, at Ft. Hayes, Columbus OH. He is buried at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Belgium, Plot H, Row 11, Grave 62.

I also have the original Western Union telegram informing her grandmother of his death, which states that a confirming letter follows. We do not have this letter, and we are hoping that it is a part of your association's records.

We also hope the association will be able to tell us his battalion, company, platoon, and squad designations.
