It's not the end!
Several members have contacted the editor, wondering if the Checkerboard will continue and whether Washington, D.C., was the final convention of the 99th Infantry Division.
The answer to the first question — will the Checkerboard continue — is a resounding YES!
The Checkerboard will continue being published as long as there are interesting stories to print and veterans wanting to receive it.
The board of directors has requested it be published three or four times a year. That schedule will be upheld.
But, I need your help. Send your stories. The Checkerboard chronicles the history of the 99th — and that means your individual recollections. It's important that your story is recorded for future generations.
Was Washington, D.C., the final convention — NO!
Next year, the 59th annual convention will be at the Westin Crown Center, Kansas City MO. Dates are Aug. 6-9. Tour packages and activities are being reviewed and more information will be shared after the first of the year.
The 2009 convention site has not yet been selected. Suggested sites are St. Louis MO, or Memphis TN. If you have a suggestion for a location, contact the editor.
Convention cities must be easily accessible by major airports and have a wide variety of activities and tours available.
Send your stories and suggestions for future conventions to 99th Inf. Div. Assn., PO Box 99, Marion KS 66861.
The 99th Infantry Division Association will continue!
