Information wanted

My uncle, Dick O'Donnell, was the company runner for K Company, 3rd Battalion, 395th Regiment, during the Battle of the Bulge and until he was wounded and evacuated in early March 1945.

In trying to learn more about his experiences, I am reading the book, "Butler's Battlin' Blue Bastards," by Thor Ronningen. In it, on page 45, there is a statement by James W. Williams of HQ Co., 3rd Bn., that states: "For the defense [of Hofen] . . . every soldier was awarded the Bronze Star by special order of the War Department."

Do you know if this is true, and if so, what the special order number and date was? If it's true, I would like to try to get a copy of the special order from the National Archives.
