Houston 99'ers celebrate Veterans Day years ago
Three 99'ers, along with 62 other veterans, were honored Nov. 11, 2002, at a Veterans Day celebration by the students and faculty at Spring Forest Middle School, Houston TX.
Jim Burtner G/394, Herb Richter S/099, and B.O. Wilkins K/393, joined other veterans of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard, as well as families for a complimentary breakfast.
Following that, a celebration in the gymnasium was held with 950 students, band, orchestra, and chorus. The morning included the presentation of the colors, introduction of each veteran, music, words by students, and concluded with a speech by a Marine who fought at Iwo Jima.
It was the second year for the celebration at the school and it now is an annual event.
