Bill Hays responds to son's request for facts about his father
It's a long story, one of many years, but it has been resolved by the considerate action of William D. Hays of A Btry/370th FA Bn.
Frank Goodwin wrote to the Checkerboard about a year ago seeking information on his father: Francis Steven Goodwin who had served in A/370.
He wrote a poignant letter about a little boy who grew up not quite understanding about his father's military service. It became a taboo subject, never discussed.
The father died tragically in 1955 while the son was only nine.
His request for information was answered by Bill Hays, who had served with the father. Bill sent audio tapes, information, and photographs. It was a noble gesture that was duly appreciated by the family.
