Editor will be missed

It is with sadness that I have to inform the membership of the death of our esteemed editor of the Checkerboard, Bill Meyer.

His death was due to a fall at his home in Marion KS, on Nov. 13, 2006.

Bill was a hard worker for the association. He always had the welfare of the 99th Infantry Division Association on his mind. The Checkerboard was the premiere World War II publication.

His accomplishments are enumerated in his obituary and he will be sorely missed.

I extend our condolences on behalf of the membership to his widow Joan, son Eric, and their families. I also send condolences to Donna Bernhardt, the executive director of the 99th, who worked with Bill for many years.

Our loss is great, but theirs is infinitely greater. May the good Lord show compassion to them as they continue their journey through life without Bill.
