Do you remember three days with Sgt. Walter?
A lot of memories returned as I read the first issue 2007 of the Checkerboard. There is a picture and story of a small monument that the Germans placed in the forest where K/393 was located, prior to and the first day of the Bulge.
Why should I remember this area since I was platoon sergeant of Third Platoon, L/393?
On Dec. 16, as we were driving the Germans out of our area, they led us over to K Company's area. K Company was gone and we took over their foxholes and remained there through Dec. 19.
The Germans were already behind our lines and headed west. We were told that K Company only had 17 men who survived the original onslaught.
If any of my men who were with me for those three days are still alive, I would like to hear from them.
