Book added to list

Joe Thimm, K/395, writes to recommend "The Reich's Last Gamble (The Ardennes Offensive, December 1944)" by George Forty be added to the list of books about the Battle of the Bulge.

This book was published in 2000 by Cassell & Co. in London and distributed in the USA by Sterling Publishing Co., New York NY (ISBN 0-304-35802-9).

Lieutenant Col. (Ret.) George Forty served 30 years in the Royal Tank Regiment and was wounded in combat in Korea. He is a former director and curator of the Tank Museum in Bovington, Dorset, England.

At some point, Bill Meyer included a request in the Checkerboard for 99'ers to submit some of their Battle of the Bulge experiences directly to Forty. Those of us who contacted him are noted in the acknowledgment section of his book (J.R. McIlroy, B.C. Henderson, Thor Ronningen, Grant Yager, Joe Thimm, and Jett Johnson).

This is a good book that includes perspectives from German combatants and details of the Bulge not found in other publications.
