Bob and Melody Gabriel continue to have troubles
Loyal 99'ers Bob and Melody Gabriel were not able to attend the San Antonio Convention, and for good reasons. Bob has Alzheimer's disease and continues to suffer from digestive problems caused while he was a "guest of the Germans" and Melody came down with shingles toward the end of July.
They were thinking of 99th friends attending the convention and their friends were concerned about the Gabriels.
Shingles is caused by stress, so Melody decided to attempt to adopt a more relaxing lifestyle. She was both physically and emotionally tired. Shingles are extremely painful.
After 10 days it became obvious that she needed to take it a bit easier, and Bob needed the care of a nursing home. As an ex-POW he is entitled to nursing home care from the Veterans Administration.
He is now a resident of Atlantic Health Care in Vero, Florida, where they reside.
Melody says the nursing home is a "lovely place" that was newly constructed following last year's hurricanes.
Bob is happy in the nursing home, where he receives excellent care, and Melody no longer has the shingles.
She visits him twice daily, monitors food intake, and says Bob is "content."
