Battlefield tour of Ardennes and Normandy planned for May 15-26, 2008 years ago

A 99th Infantry Division Association veterans' battlefield tour is planned for May 15-26, 2008. This tour will be under the capable direction of Eddie Polk of Battlefield Tours, Slidell LA, and will include the Ardennes and Normandy.

In the past, Eddie Polk and Bill Meyer worked together to organize many successful battlefield tours that included several interesting and informative stops along with the battlefield portion. Those who have been on these tours came back with a greater appreciation and knowledge of the battlefields where the 99th fought as well as some wonderful memories and new friends. This tour is sure to be another "winner."

Eddie shares this information:

"This tour will be the first since 2005. Even though we had hopes in 2006 and 2007, hurricanes Katrina and Rita put a hold on them. Unfortunately, getting our operation up and running was far more difficult than we imagined. 2008 is a definite return to business.

"We are very fortunate to have the Diggers join us during the Ardennes portion and Normandy lifetime resident and expert, Jean Baptiste "Bobbye" Feuillye.

"As usual, we will have the services of our longtime coach driver and good friend, Frans Peiten throughout the tour.

"The tour will have two full days in the 99th sector and one day visiting the Diggers' favorite chocolate factory, the Henri Chapelle Cemetery, and a special visit to the M&Ms' Remembrance Museum. Those who have not met Marcel and Mathilde and seen their fabulous museum are in for a big treat, as well as a great meal and lots of music and entertainment.

"Our last day in the Ardennes, the Diggers will escort us to Bastogne and to the battle areas of "The Band of Brothers."

"On May 20, we drive to Normandy where we will spend three days exploring many known battle areas plus some that are not too well known.

"Our last night before returning home will be spent in Paris. We will fly home from there the next day.

"Look for your brochure in the mail sometime in November. If you have any questions, please give me a call at 985-646-0354 or toll free 800-556-1460.

"It's great to be back."
