A/924 holds 25th reunion
The 25th reunion of A/924, hosted by Al and Ethel Jungeberg, was held July 19-22 in Columbus OH, with 19 veterans attending.
Twenty men came to the first gathering in 1955, which also was held in Columbus.
Guests included James Hazek, who was present on behalf of his deceased father, Paul and Michael Mazer, who came in honor of his father, Manny Mazer. A professional photographer, Mazer volunteered to function in that capacity at the reunion.
Ten states were represented, including California. First-timers Rodney and Fran Johnston flew in from Pasadena CA.
Forty-three adults and two children attended the buffet-style banquet Saturday evening. The program included singing the field artillery "Caisson Song" and concluded with "God Bless America."
Arguably, the most moving address was given by Don Spittler, Col. USA (Ret), who reviewed his successful efforts to locate the wife of Angelas Herpin who was killed in action Dec. 26, 1944, while Don was the CO. The frustrating search took years, but Herpin was immensely grateful to hear from someone present at the time of her husband's death.
The 2002 reunion will be hosted by Tullie and Shirley Richmond. Details will be announced soon.
