99th receives publicity years ago

CSM Fred Fair, past command sergeant major of the 99th Reserves, sent some articles from Army and Army Reserve publications which give history and a great deal of credit to soldiers wearing the Checkerboard patch.

The publications will be sent to our 99th Archives for preservation.

CSM Fair reminds the 99th Checkerboard patch still serves with noble soldiers who fight for world peace.

The Army Reserve publication, illustrated with photos taken by Jack Gordon, graphically tells the story of soldiers who are returning home from combat duty.

Our Checkerboard patch is identifiable in the photos. Former 99'ers will get goose bumps when they see our outfit continues to serve.

The official magazine of the Association of the United States Army, dated May 2004, tells the story of the 99th in action, showing a photo of a combat medic from Corapolis PA, Spc. Brandi Kaputa, administering medications to an Afghan girl.
