Battlefield tour of Ardennes and Normandy planned for June 4-15

A 99th Infantry Division Association veterans’ battlefield tour is planned for June 4-15. This tour will be under the capable direction of Eddie Polk of Battlefield Tours, Slidell LA, and will include the Ardennes and Normandy.

A tour scheduled for 2008 was canceled because Polk underwent surgery and was recovering.

In the past, Eddie Polk and Bill Meyer worked together to organize many successful battlefield tours that included several interesting and informative stops along with the battlefield portion. Those who have been on these tours came back with a greater appreciation and knowledge of the battlefields where the 99th fought as well as some wonderful memories and new friends. This tour is sure to be another “winner.”

This year’s tour will begin June 4 with a flight to Paris, then transportation to Normandy. The group will observe D-Day (June 6) in Normandy. Utah Beach and Omaha Beach also are on the itinerary.

On June 10, the tour will move to Monschau. The Diggers will join the group June 11 to visit battlefields and see the new monument at Camp Elsenborn which was dedicated in 2008. Other highlights of the trip will be a visit to Henri Chapelle American Cemetery and a visit to the Remember Museum and the home of the M&Ms, Mathilde and Marcel Schmetz.

The tour concludes in Brussels, where the group will depart for the United States.

Tour brochures with complete information were mailed in March. For more information, contact Eddie Polk, Battlefield Tours, PO Box 1054, Slidell LA 70459, 1-800-556-1460.
